What is Retention graph?
The retention graph is the curve in YouTube Studio showing what percentage of viewers were still watching at every second of a video. Learning to read its shapes is the fastest way to improve. A steep fall in the first fifteen seconds means the opening promised the wrong thing or took too long. A steady gentle slope is normal and healthy. A sudden cliff in the middle points at one specific moment — a tangent, an ad break, a long silence — that you can go and watch. A bump upwards means people rewound to see something again, which usually marks the most valuable few seconds in the whole video.
What does Retention graph mean for a business in Pakistan?
In audits of twin-cities channels the same cliff appears again and again at the same place: between second eight and second twenty, where the intro animation and the subscribe request live. The second most common is a mid-video slump when a client starts thanking sponsors. Both are visible on the graph in ten seconds and both are fixable with a cut, at no cost.
A worked example
An Islamabad cooking channel's 10-minute video holds 85 percent to 0:12, then drops to 51 percent by 0:28 — the length of its animated intro. There is a rewind bump at 6:40 where the spice quantities appear. The next video drops the intro and puts the quantities on screen twice.
