What is Session time?
Session time is how long a person stays on the platform in one visit, across everything they watch — not just your video. It is the number the platform itself cares about most, because total time in the app is what it sells. This has a direct consequence for creators: content that sends a viewer onward to more watching is favoured over content that ends the visit, even if both were watched fully. A video that makes someone close the app is quietly worse for you than one they follow with three more videos, yours or anyone's. Playlists, end screens, series and clear next steps all raise it.
What does Session time mean for a business in Pakistan?
Pakistani viewing sessions cluster in two long blocks — late evening after Isha and the sehri hours in Ramadan — and load-shedding cuts them short in areas where wifi drops with the power. Publishing before those blocks and giving people an obvious next video makes your content the start of a session rather than the last thing before the phone goes down.
A worked example
An Islamabad exam-prep channel arranges 22 videos into a numbered series with end screens. Average views per viewing session go from 1.3 to 3.1 videos, and channel watch time rises from about 640 to 1,480 hours a month with no change in upload frequency.
