What is Save?
A save is when someone stores your post to come back to it later. On Instagram it is the bookmark icon on the right of a post; on TikTok it appears as favourites. A save is the strongest ordinary signal a viewer can send short of sharing, because it means the content has practical value to them — a price, a method, a design they want, an address they will need. Platforms weigh saves heavily in deciding whether to show a post to more people, and they also predict return visits, which matters because the platform wants people opening the app again. Saves are usually invisible to everyone except the account owner.
