What is Engagement rate?
Engagement rate is the share of people who did something with your post instead of scrolling past it. You add up the actions — likes, comments, saves, shares — and divide by a base number, then express it as a percentage. Which base you use changes the answer completely, so always say which one you mean. Divided by reach it tells you how compelling the post was to the people who saw it. Divided by follower count it tells you how alive your audience is. Agencies quote whichever version flatters them, which is why the same post can honestly be described as 2 percent or 11 percent depending on the denominator.
What does Engagement rate mean for a business in Pakistan?
Pakistani accounts that bought followers from a PKR 2,000 panel look catastrophic on the by-followers version: 40,000 followers and 60 likes is a rate under 0.2 percent, and brands checking you before a collaboration will see it instantly. Real local pages with 3,000 to 8,000 genuine followers in Islamabad routinely beat them, which is why we never buy anything for a client account.
A worked example
A Rawalpindi salon in Satellite Town posts a Reel that reaches 12,000 accounts and gets 600 likes, 40 saves and 20 shares. Engagement rate on reach is 660 divided by 12,000, or 5.5 percent — strong for a local business page.
