What is Barter deal?
A barter deal is a collaboration where a creator receives your product or service instead of cash. It suits businesses whose marginal cost is low and whose experience is worth showing — restaurants, salons, gyms, studios. It suits nobody once the creator is big enough to have a rate card. The word 'free' is misleading: you are paying in stock, staff time and a table that could have been sold, so price it honestly before agreeing. Put the same terms in writing that you would for a cash deal — what gets posted, on which platform, by which date, and whether you may reuse the footage.
What does Barter deal mean for a business in Pakistan?
Every restaurant and salon in the twin cities gets a stream of 'collab' DMs, and a large share come from accounts with bought followers. Two checks filter most of them out: ask for a screen recording of story views over thirty days, and read the comments for real local accounts rather than emoji strings. Non-delivery is common, so start with one creator, not twelve.
A worked example
An F-7 salon does 12 barter deals in a month at PKR 4,500 of service value each — PKR 54,000 given away. Six creators post, two post late, four never post at all. The two who genuinely delivered bring 43 bookings between them, so the salon drops the rest and moves those two onto a paid PKR 6,000-per-post arrangement.
