Engagement Rate Calculator with a Verdict
Work out the engagement rate of a single post and get told straight whether it is weak, healthy or strong. It counts saves and shares separately, because those two are what actually push a Reel or TikTok further, and a post can score badly on likes while quietly doing well.
Work it out
How this is calculated
totalInteractions = likes + comments + saves + shares. engagementRate = (totalInteractions ÷ reach) × 100, shown to one decimal place. saveShareRate = ((saves + shares) ÷ reach) × 100, to one decimal place. verdict bands on engagementRate: under 1.0% = "Weak — the post reached people who did not care"; 1.0% to 2.9% = "Below average — normal for a cold audience"; 3.0% to 5.9% = "Healthy — this is where a working account sits"; 6.0% to 9.9% = "Strong — repeat whatever this was"; 10.0% and above = "Exceptional — study this post before you post anything else". interactionsToNextBand = ceiling(reach × nextBandLowerBound ÷ 100) − totalInteractions, where nextBandLowerBound is 1, 3, 6 or 10 depending on the current band; if already in the top band, show 0.
Things to keep in mind
- Engagement rate over reach and engagement rate over followers are two different numbers, and agencies quote whichever flatters them. This tool uses reach, which is the harsher and more useful one.
- The bands are our reading of what healthy looks like on Instagram and TikTok for Pakistani accounts. LinkedIn and Facebook Pages usually run lower — a 2% rate on a Facebook business page is not the same failure it would be on a Reel.
- A very small post inflates the percentage. Thirty interactions on 300 reach is 10%, and it means almost nothing. Below about 1,000 reach, read the raw counts instead.
- Comment quality is not in the number. Forty "nice" comments and forty questions about your price look identical here and are worth completely different money.
About this calculator
What is a good engagement rate in Pakistan?
Three to six percent of reach is a healthy working account, and above six is strong. Pakistani audiences comment less than they save and share, so an account with a 2% like rate and a 3% share rate is in better shape than the headline suggests — which is why this calculator separates the two.
Why do saves and shares matter more than likes?
A like costs nothing and tells the algorithm almost nothing. A save says the post is worth coming back to, and a share says someone risked their own reputation on it. Both platforms weight those far more heavily when deciding whether to show your post to a second, colder batch of people.
My engagement rate dropped after I gained followers. Did I do something wrong?
Probably not. If you measure against followers, the rate falls mechanically every time the account grows, because the denominator grows faster than the people who care. Measure against reach instead and the picture usually stays flat — which is the honest reading.
