Should I start a new YouTube channel or fix my old one?

Creators often believe their channel is "dead" or "shadowbanned" and that a new one will start clean. In practice YouTube judges each new video largely on how viewers respond to it, not on the channel's past. A channel with years of low views can publish a video that does well if that video earns clicks and watch time. What the old channel brings is valuable: existing subscribers, unlocked features like custom thumbnails, any monetisation progress, and a history that tells YouTube something about who watches you.

A new channel makes sense when the audience changes completely. If you ran a cricket highlights channel as a student and now want to build a channel for your architecture practice in F-11, the old subscribers will not watch the new videos, and their lack of interest can make early uploads look weaker to YouTube. In that case, a separate channel with its own name gives the new content a clean audience. Brand accounts let one Google login manage several channels, so you do not need a new email.

One situation needs care. If the old channel has active Community Guidelines strikes or was restricted, creating a new channel to get around those restrictions breaks YouTube's rules and can lead to both being removed. Wait for strikes to expire and fix the cause. If you decide to keep the old channel, you do not need to delete old videos; set the irrelevant ones to unlisted or private if they confuse the channel page, update the channel name and description, and judge the new direction on its next ten uploads.
