Answered · How to
Does the first comment matter?
It matters for what it does to viewers, not for any ranking bonus. No platform gives you extra reach for commenting on your own post. What a good pinned first comment does is answer the obvious question, give the price or the address, and start a reply thread — and comment replies genuinely do feed engagement.
The longer answer
Start with the myth, because it is the reason most people ask. Putting your hashtags in the first comment instead of the caption does nothing on Instagram; the system reads both the same way, and the practice survives only because it made captions look tidier back when people used thirty tags. There is no hidden weighting for being the first person to comment on your own post, and no platform documentation has ever suggested there is.
What the pin does is different and worth the thirty seconds. A dermatologist in E-11 pins the same comment under every treatment Reel: the consultation fee in PKR, whether the procedure needs a follow-up visit, and the clinic timings. Those three facts used to arrive as forty DMs a week that somebody had to answer individually. Pinned, they are answered once, publicly, in the place where the question occurs to people. The DM load dropped and the enquiries that do arrive are further along.
The second job is starting the conversation in the right direction. A first comment that asks something specific — which sector should we cover next, or what would you want to see the price of — gets replies, and replies are engagement the platform counts. A generic follow for more comment gets nothing and reads as desperate. Ask about a decision the viewer actually has.
Reply speed is the part that genuinely affects distribution, because comment activity in the first hour tells the platform the post is alive. On managed accounts somebody answers comments during that first hour, which is unglamorous work and one of the reasons the Growth package includes comment and DM replies rather than leaving them to a client who is running a clinic at the same time.

This question usually leads to the Growth package. A YouTube channel or business page that is posting but not growing.
