Can lawyers in Pakistan market themselves on LinkedIn?

Lawyers can build a professional presence on LinkedIn, but Pakistan's conduct rules for advocates restrict advertising and soliciting work, so posts should educate rather than sell. Explaining a new law, a court procedure or common mistakes is generally safer than "hire me" messages. Check your bar council's rules before starting, and protect client confidentiality absolutely.

The longer answer

Advocates in Pakistan work under professional conduct rules made under the legal practitioners' legislation, and those rules have traditionally restricted lawyers from advertising or soliciting clients directly. How they apply to modern social media is not always spelled out, and interpretations vary, so the safest approach is to treat LinkedIn as a place to demonstrate knowledge and judgement rather than to advertise. If you are unsure, ask your bar council or a senior colleague; we are not lawyers and do not give legal advice on this.

Educational content fits that approach well. Posts explaining what a recent amendment means for tenants in Islamabad, how the process of filing a family suit works, what overseas Pakistanis should check before granting a power of attorney, or what founders often misunderstand in a shareholder agreement are useful to readers and show expertise without asking for business. Commentary on judgments already in the public domain can work too, written carefully and respectfully. Career posts, such as lessons from early practice or advice for young lawyers, are also common and low-risk.

Confidentiality is non-negotiable. Never write about a client, even anonymously, in a way that someone could identify — the twin cities are small, and the details of a case can identify a family. Avoid commenting on matters you are involved in, avoid promising outcomes, and avoid anything that reads as a claim of superiority over other advocates. When we ghost-write for lawyers, every draft is built from a conversation, avoids client specifics entirely, and goes to the lawyer for approval before publishing, so the final judgement on what is appropriate always rests with the advocate.
