Answered · Choosing someone

Is it dishonest to use a ghostwriter for my LinkedIn posts?

Not if the ideas, stories and opinions are genuinely yours and you approve every word. Executives and politicians have long had speechwriters; a LinkedIn ghostwriter does the same for busy professionals in Islamabad. It becomes dishonest when the writer invents experiences, client wins or opinions you do not hold, and you post them as your own.

The longer answer

The test is simple: could you defend every sentence in a meeting? If a client mentions your post about how you handled a difficult tax audit and you remember the case and stand by the lesson, the post is honestly yours, even if someone else arranged the words. If the post describes a deal you never closed, a conversation that never happened, or a view you would not repeat out loud, it is fiction under your name, and it will eventually catch up with you in a professional community as small as the twin cities.

That is why ghostwriting should start with you, not a template. A good process involves regular interviews where you talk about your work: what clients keep asking, what you disagree with in your industry, a decision you would make differently now. The writer turns those into drafts using your phrases and level of formality, then sends them for approval. You edit freely and nothing is published without your yes. Over time the posts sound more like you, not less, because the writer learns how you speak.

Some people choose to be open about it, mentioning that they work with an editor, and that is a reasonable choice. Others treat it like any other professional help, the way a senior partner may have an associate draft a letter they then sign. Either is fine. What is never fine is fabricating credentials, results or testimonials. We do not invent client wins, cases or numbers, and anything touching a client, an employer or a confidential matter is checked twice before it goes to you for approval.
