What is Verification badge?
A verification badge is the tick a platform puts next to an account name to confirm it is who it claims to be. The rules differ by platform and keep changing. YouTube grants a channel verification tick on eligibility that has publicly included reaching 100,000 subscribers, and separately verifies channels for name-linking purposes. TikTok grants verification free, on its own judgement, and does not sell it. Meta runs a paid subscription that includes a badge, rolled out country by country. What a badge does not do is increase your reach — it is an identity signal, useful mainly for stopping fake accounts using your name and for reassuring people before they pay you.
What does Verification badge mean for a business in Pakistan?
Do not buy a tick from anyone on WhatsApp or Facebook offering it for PKR 20,000 to PKR 60,000. It is the most common social-media scam aimed at Pakistani business owners, and the usual result is a lost password and an account someone else now runs. If a paid badge is genuinely available to you, it will appear inside the official app under settings, not in a DM.
A worked example
A Blue Area travel agency finds four fake pages using its logo, two of them taking PKR 15,000 deposits for umrah bookings. After verification and a pinned notice naming the one real page, impersonation complaints in the DMs fall from about 6 a week to under 1.
