What is Swipe-away rate?
Swipe-away rate is the share of viewers who leave a short video almost immediately, usually within the first second or two, by flicking to the next one. Platforms do not always publish it under that name, but it sits behind the three-second and completion figures you can see, and it is the harshest verdict a vertical feed gives. It differs from ordinary drop-off in that the viewer never engaged at all — they made the decision from a single frame and a fraction of a second of audio. That means it is decided by things you control cheaply: the first frame, the on-screen text, the brightness, and whether anything is moving.
What does Swipe-away rate mean for a business in Pakistan?
Most Pakistani phone viewing happens on the move, on mobile data, one-handed, often outdoors in strong sunlight. A dim indoor first frame with small grey text is invisible in that setting and gets swiped instantly. Big high-contrast text, a face or a product filling the frame, and motion inside the first half second are what stop the thumb on a Rawalpindi bus.
A worked example
A twin-cities bakery's Reel opens on a dim counter and only 29 percent of viewers reach three seconds. Recut to open on a knife cutting into the cake with the words 'PKR 3,200 ka cake' on screen, the next Reel holds 64 percent past three seconds and reaches six times as many accounts.
