What is Shorts feed?
The Shorts feed is YouTube's vertical, swipeable stream of short videos, reached from the Shorts button or by tapping any Short. It ranks separately from the rest of YouTube: a channel can be doing well in Shorts and badly in long-form at the same time, because the two feeds judge different things. Shorts distribution is driven by whether people watch to the end and loop rather than by click-through, since there is no thumbnail to click. Views count towards the channel but Shorts watch time does not count towards the 4,000-hour Partner Program threshold — YouTube publishes a separate Shorts-views route to monetisation instead.
What does Shorts feed mean for a business in Pakistan?
Shorts is currently the cheapest way for a Pakistani channel to be seen at all, and the vertical clips we cut for clients get repurposed straight into it from the same footage as a TikTok. The catch is that Shorts subscribers convert badly to long-form watchers, so a channel aiming at the watch-hours threshold cannot get there on Shorts alone.
A worked example
An Aabpara street-food channel posts 30 Shorts in a month and collects 1.6 million views and 4,200 subscribers. Long-form watch hours over the same month total 190 — nowhere near the 4,000 needed, because Shorts hours are counted on a different route.
