What is Review gating?
Review gating means filtering customers before asking for a review: asking first whether they were happy, then sending only the happy ones to Google and steering unhappy ones to a private form. Google's policies prohibit it, along with paying for reviews, offering discounts in exchange for reviews and posting reviews on your own business. Reviews obtained this way can be removed, and repeated violations can lead to restrictions on the profile. The allowed approach is to ask every customer the same way, make it easy, and reply to whatever comes back, including the critical ones.
What does Review gating mean for a business in Pakistan?
Gating is common in the twin cities because it feels like normal customer care, and some review tools sold locally build it in. So is the simpler version: asking friends and family to post five stars. Both carry risk. A plain WhatsApp message with the review link, sent to every customer after a job, is safe and works.
A worked example
A Bahria Town car detailing shop sends every customer the same WhatsApp message after delivery: thank you, and here is our Google review link if you have a minute. Out of 60 cars in a month, 14 leave reviews, two of them three stars. The owner replies to both politely, and the profile's rating stays credible rather than suspiciously perfect.
