A citation is any online mention of your business name, address and phone, whether or not it links back to your site. Directories, chamber listings, marketplace profiles, event pages and news mentions all count. Search engines use them as corroboration: if fifteen independent sources agree this business sits at this address with this number, the listing is probably real. Quantity matters far less than accuracy and relevance — five correct citations on sites Pakistanis actually use beat sixty on abandoned global directories. Unlike a backlink, a citation does not need a hyperlink to do its job.
