What is Orphan page?
An orphan page is a page on your website that no other page links to. Visitors can only reach it if they know the address, and search engines may only find it through a sitemap, if at all. Because internal links are one of the ways Google judges how important a page is, an orphan page is treated as unimportant and often ranks poorly or is not indexed. Orphans appear when pages are published for an ad campaign, when menus are redesigned, or when a blog post is written and never linked from anything else.
What does Orphan page mean for a business in Pakistan?
Landing pages built for a Ramadan or Eid campaign are the classic orphans on Pakistani sites. The campaign ends, the ads stop, and a well-written page sits forgotten. Linking the useful ones from a permanent offers or services page, or redirecting the dead ones, tidies the site.
A worked example
A site crawl of an Islamabad interior design company finds 14 orphan pages: six old campaign landing pages, five project case studies never added to the portfolio and three duplicate drafts. The five case studies are linked from the portfolio page, the six landing pages are redirected to the relevant service pages, and the drafts are deleted.
