What is Lookalike audience?
A lookalike audience is a brand-new group of strangers that the platform assembles by finding people who resemble a source list you provide. You supply the seed — buyers, leads, video viewers, page engagers — and the system looks for behavioural patterns shared by that seed, then finds others who match. Size is expressed as a percentage of a country's users: a 1 percent lookalike is the closest match and the smallest, and larger percentages loosen the resemblance for more volume. The seed decides everything. A list of your best customers produces a useful audience; a list of giveaway entrants produces an audience of people who like giveaways.
What does Lookalike audience mean for a business in Pakistan?
Two things matter locally. First, most small pages do not have a thousand real buyers to seed from, so build the seed out of engaged video viewers instead of forcing a thin customer list. Second, lookalikes are generated per country, so a Pakistan lookalike covers Karachi to Peshawar. Always layer Islamabad and Rawalpindi on top, or you will pay to reach people who can never walk into your shop.
A worked example
A Rawalpindi lawn seller uploads 1,800 past customer numbers. Meta matches 1,240 and builds a 1 percent lookalike of roughly 2.2 million people across Pakistan. Adding a geography and age layer — twin cities, women 25–45 — cuts it to about 310,000, and that is the version that actually produces orders.
