What is Keyword cannibalisation?
Keyword cannibalisation happens when two or more pages on the same website target the same search phrase and end up competing with each other. Google cannot tell which one you want to rank, so it swaps between them, or ranks neither as well as one strong page would. It usually creeps in over time: a service page, then a blog post on the same topic, then a city page that repeats both. The fix is to decide which page owns the phrase, merge or redirect the duplicates into it, and make the other pages link to it instead of chasing the same words.
What does Keyword cannibalisation mean for a business in Pakistan?
It is common on Pakistani business sites where blogs were written to a monthly quota. A clinic ends up with five posts called something like best skin specialist Islamabad, all thin, all fighting the actual service page. Merging them into one solid page often helps more than writing a sixth.
A worked example
A Rawalpindi movers company has a home page, a services page and three blog posts all aiming at house shifting Rawalpindi. Search Console shows Google rotating between four of them, each around position 15. The company folds the blog content into one shifting page, redirects the old posts to it, and that single page now collects every signal the five were splitting.
