What is Jump cut?

A jump cut removes a chunk of time from the middle of a continuous shot, so the speaker appears to jump slightly between frames. In classical film grammar it is a mistake; in online video it is the default, because it lets you delete every pause, stumble and repeated sentence and keep only the useful words. The cost is a visible bump at each edit, which is why editors soften them with b-roll, a small change of zoom, or a quick sound effect. Overdone, it produces the breathless style where nobody ever finishes a thought.

What does Jump cut mean for a business in Pakistan?

Pakistani speakers on camera use a lot of connective filler — yaani, basically, to phir, jee — plus long pauses while translating a thought from Urdu into English. Cutting those is often what turns a rambling 14-minute recording into a tight six-minute video people actually finish. Keep enough breath between sentences that it still sounds like a person rather than a machine gun.

A worked example

A doctor records an 11-minute explainer in one take. Removing 96 pauses and filler words averaging 2.5 seconds each strips out exactly 4 minutes, leaving 7. Retention on the seven-minute version runs far higher than on the original, because the dead air where people used to leave simply is not there any more.

These come up in the same conversations and are worth reading together.
