What is Event (GA4)?
In Google Analytics 4, an event is any recorded interaction: a page view, a scroll, a click on an outbound link, a video play, a form submission, a purchase. GA4 is built entirely on events, unlike older Universal Analytics, which used separate hit types. Some events are collected automatically, more come from enhanced measurement when switched on, and the rest are custom events you define, usually through Google Tag Manager. Each event can carry parameters, such as the button text or the value of an order. Naming events consistently — whatsapp_click, call_click, quote_form_submit — matters, because messy names make reports unreadable months later.
What does Event (GA4) mean for a business in Pakistan?
For most twin-city businesses the events that matter are not purchases but contact actions: tapping the WhatsApp button, tapping a phone number, opening directions. Out of the box GA4 does not label these clearly, so they need custom events before the reports say anything useful.
A worked example
Imagine a Rawalpindi car rental site that tracks three custom events: whatsapp_click, call_click and booking_form_submit, each with a parameter for the car model. After a month, GA4 shows the Corolla page produced most WhatsApp taps, while the Prado page got views but almost no contact.
