What is Ad Rank?
Ad Rank is the value Google calculates, fresh for every single search, to decide whether your ad shows at all and in what position. It combines your bid with the quality of the ad and landing page, the context of the search (device, location, time, the words used), and the expected effect of your assets such as sitelinks and call buttons. Because quality is in the formula, the highest bidder does not automatically win the top slot. Ad Rank also sets what you actually pay: in the auction you pay roughly what you needed to beat the advertiser below you, not your maximum bid. You never see the Ad Rank number itself, only its results in position and cost.
What does Ad Rank mean for a business in Pakistan?
Many small advertisers in Islamabad assume the bigger agency or the bigger brand always outbids them. In practice a local plumber in G-11 with a sharp ad, a call asset and a fast page can sit above a national company bidding more, because the auction rewards relevance to the person searching in that sector.
A worked example
Picture two driving schools bidding on 'driving school Rawalpindi'. School A bids PKR 80 with a vague ad and slow page. School B bids PKR 60 with an ad naming Satellite Town, a call asset and a page showing course timings. School B can win the higher position and still pay less per click than A would have.
