Why does Google Analytics show so much direct traffic on my website?
Direct means GA4 could not tell where the visit came from, not that people typed your address. In Pakistan, links opened from WhatsApp chats are a major cause, along with some app browsers, untagged email and QR codes, and privacy settings. Tag your shared links with UTM parameters and much of that direct traffic gets a real source.

The longer answer
GA4 assigns each visit a source using the referrer, the address of the page the visitor came from, plus any UTM labels in the link. When neither exists, the visit is classed as direct. Typing your web address or using a bookmark is one cause, but for most small business sites it is not the main one.
WhatsApp is the big one in Pakistan. When someone taps your link inside a chat, a group or a broadcast, the visit usually reaches your site with no referrer, so GA4 files it as direct. The same happens with links in many mobile apps, PDFs, desktop email programs, SMS messages and QR codes scanned with a phone camera. A business in Islamabad whose customers share its link mostly on WhatsApp can see a large direct share for this reason alone.
Technical problems can also inflate direct traffic: a page missing the GA4 tag so the session restarts, redirects that strip the referrer, a move from http to https that was set up badly, or a payment gateway that sends shoppers back to your site and starts a new session. Check that every page and the thank-you page carry the tag, and add payment domains to the referral exclusion list so a JazzCash or card payment does not steal credit for the sale.
The fix for the WhatsApp share is UTM tagging. Use tagged links in broadcasts, status updates, your WhatsApp Business profile, Instagram bio and printed QR codes, and the visits move out of direct into named sources you can compare. Some direct traffic will always remain, and that is normal.
