When should a small business rebrand?

Good reasons tend to be concrete. A pharmacy in Satellite Town whose green cross and name look almost identical to the one two streets away is losing recognition every day. A restaurant that began as a dhaba and now takes family bookings in F-6 may have outgrown a logo drawn for takeaway boxes. A brand that only exists as a low-resolution image, with five different versions in use, needs at least a redraw. Each of these has a cost you can point to.

Weak reasons are just as common. Sales are down, but the page posts twice a month and the Google listing has no photos; a new logo will not fix that. A new partner wants to put their stamp on things. A competitor rebranded and it looked impressive. In these cases the money is better spent on visibility and consistency, and we say so at the audit rather than taking on a rebrand that will not change anything.

If you do go ahead, consider a refresh before a full rebrand: keep the colour or shape people remember and fix what breaks. Then switch everything over in the same week: signboard, WhatsApp Business profile picture, Google Business Profile logo and cover, social pages, website and printed material. Tell customers in a post why things look different. A slow, partial switch leaves two identities in circulation for months and confuses people searching for you.
