What is the difference between a logo and a brand identity?

Think of the logo as your signature and the identity as your handwriting. Customers see the logo for a second, on a signboard or as a profile picture. They see the identity everywhere else: the colour of the offer post, the font on the menu, the print on the delivery bag, whether the Instagram grid looks like one shop or five. Most of the recognition a small business builds comes from that repetition rather than from the mark on its own.

A workable identity for a single-location business in Islamabad or Rawalpindi usually contains the logo in a few versions (full, stacked and icon), two or three colours with exact values for screen and print, one or two typefaces including an Urdu pairing if you write in Urdu, a few rules about photography, and a short note on how you speak to customers. That is enough to brief any designer, printer or new member of staff without a meeting.

Large corporate identity systems with thick manuals exist for companies with many branches and many suppliers. A clinic in F-10 or a bakery in Saddar does not need one, and paying for one early is a common waste. Start with a compact identity, use it consistently for a year, and expand it only when you open another branch or hire a team that keeps getting it wrong.
