What is technical SEO, in simple words?

Think of a shop in a plaza. Content is what is on the shelves; reviews and links are the reputation that brings people in; technical SEO is the door, the lights and the signage. They need a careful check, a round of fixes and then a light watch, especially after any redesign, plugin update or hosting move, which is when things usually break. Larger sites — online stores with thousands of products, news sites, portals — need ongoing attention because they generate new problems every week.
