What is Google Search Console, and does my business need it?

Search Console is the only place Google tells you directly what it thinks of your site. The performance report lists the searches you appear for, how often, your average position and how many people clicked, broken down by page, country and device. For an Islamabad business it often reveals surprises: searches you never targeted that already bring visitors, or a key service page that gets impressions but almost no clicks because its title is unappealing.

The other reports are diagnostic. Page indexing shows which pages are in Google and why others are not. The Core Web Vitals report groups pages by real-user loading and responsiveness. The manual actions report tells you if a reviewer at Google has penalised the site, and the security issues report flags hacking or malware. Sitemaps are submitted here, and the URL Inspection tool lets you check any single page and request a recrawl after a fix. None of this information is available anywhere else with the same authority.

Setting it up takes a few minutes: add the property, preferably as a domain property verified by a DNS record, which covers every version of your site. The important detail is ownership. Many sites in Islamabad and Rawalpindi were set up by a developer under their own Gmail, and when that relationship ends, the business loses access to years of data. Create the property under a Google account the business controls, then add your developer or agency as a user with the permission level they need. If a previous developer already verified it, you can verify again yourself; several owners can coexist, and you can then remove anyone who should no longer have access.
