What is a good PageSpeed Insights score for a business website?

The performance score is a weighted summary of several lab measurements taken on a simulated phone with a slowed connection. Google's own colour bands put ninety and above in green, fifty to eighty-nine in orange, and below fifty in red. The score can move by several points between runs with nothing changed, because network conditions and server load vary. So treat a single number as a rough indicator, run the test a few times, and look at the individual metrics rather than celebrating or panicking over the headline figure.

Google uses Core Web Vitals field data, not the lab score, as a page experience signal in search. That means a site can show a middling lab score yet pass Core Web Vitals because its real visitors on decent phones load it quickly, or show a decent lab score yet fail because real visitors have a worse experience. Search Console's report and the field data section of PageSpeed Insights are the place to check that. For sites with little traffic, field data may not exist and the lab score is the best guide available.

A sensible target for a small business site is green on mobile for key pages where practical, and passing Core Web Vitals for real visitors. Chasing a perfect hundred often means removing things that genuinely help, like a map or a short video, for little gain. Spend effort where the biggest delays are.
