How do I check my website's speed properly?

PageSpeed Insights gives two kinds of result, and people often confuse them. The top section, when available, shows field data collected from real Chrome users over the previous weeks: how quickly the main content appeared, how responsive the page was to taps, and how much the layout shifted. The lower section is a lab test run once on a simulated mid-range phone with a throttled connection, producing the familiar score out of a hundred and a list of opportunities. The field data tells you whether there is a problem; the lab test helps find out why.

Search Console adds a site-wide view. Its Core Web Vitals report groups your pages into good, needs improvement and poor, based on real visits, so you can see whether the problem is one template, such as product pages, or the whole site. If your site gets little traffic, there may not be enough data for either tool to show field results, and you will rely on lab tests. That is normal for many small business sites in the twin cities and not a sign that anything is broken.

Finally, test like a customer. Open the site on a mid-range Android phone over mobile data, not on office broadband or a powerful laptop, and time how long until you can read the headline and tap the WhatsApp button. Try it from a car on the Expressway or in a market with weak signal. Record what you see.
