What is a good CTR on YouTube?

YouTube itself says most channels sit between 2 and 10 percent, so anything in that range is normal. Judge your CTR against your own back catalogue rather than a global average, and always read it beside average view duration — a 14 percent CTR with 20-second retention means the thumbnail lied.

YouTube par acha CTR kitna hona chahiye?

The longer answer

Click-through rate is clicks divided by impressions, and an impression only counts when your thumbnail was actually on someone's screen. That denominator is what makes the number slippery. A bike modification channel in Rawalpindi publishing to 900 subscribers gets most of its impressions on the subscriber feed, where people already know the channel and click generously, so its CTR reads 11 percent. The same thumbnail served on the home page to strangers might do 3 percent. Neither number is wrong; they are measuring different audiences.

This is why CTR falls as a video succeeds, and why that fall is good news. When a video breaks out of your subscribers and gets served to cold viewers, the denominator grows much faster than the clicks do. We have watched videos go from 9 percent to 4 percent CTR while the actual click count tripled. If you only look at the percentage you will conclude the thumbnail broke, and you will change the one thing that was working.

Read CTR and average view duration as a pair, always. High CTR with low retention is the classic overpromise: a thumbnail with a shocked face and a number that the video never delivers. YouTube reads the abandonment and stops serving it, and worse, your regular viewers learn to distrust your thumbnails. Low CTR with high retention is the opposite and much easier to fix — the video is good and nobody is clicking, so rewrite the title and redo the thumbnail on a video that has already proven itself.

One local note on thumbnails: text on a thumbnail should be readable at the size a phone actually shows it, which in Pakistan is often on a cracked screen in daylight. Three or four words maximum, in high contrast, in whichever of Urdu or English your audience thinks in. Putting a PKR figure on the thumbnail lifts clicks on price-led topics more reliably than any face we have tested.
