Answered · How to

Should I post in Urdu or Roman Urdu on LinkedIn?

Mostly post in English, because LinkedIn in Pakistan is used largely in English and foreign clients or recruiters may be reading. Use Urdu or Roman Urdu occasionally when the audience is clearly local and the idea lands better that way — a phrase, a proverb, a post aimed at Pakistani professionals or students. Match how you actually speak.

The longer answer

LinkedIn is a professional network, and in Pakistan professional communication happens mostly in English, so most of your audience expects it. If your work involves foreign clients, international employers or multinationals in Islamabad, English is essential, because a post they cannot read does nothing for you. Recruiters searching LinkedIn also search in English, and your headline and About section should be in English for that reason alone.

That does not mean Urdu has no place. Some of the most memorable posts by Pakistani professionals use an Urdu phrase, a proverb, a line from a parent or a mentor, or a short Roman Urdu exchange, because it feels honest and local. A post aimed specifically at Pakistani audiences — advice for fresh graduates in Rawalpindi, a reflection on working in a family business, an observation about the local market — can work well with more Urdu in it. Urdu script is readable to Pakistani audiences but invisible to search in English, so use it where the human connection matters more than discoverability.

The best guide is your own voice. If you naturally mix English and Urdu when you speak to colleagues, a little of that mix in writing will sound like you; if you never do, forcing it will sound odd. Avoid translating idioms clumsily in either direction. When we ghost-write, we write in the register you actually use in meetings, which for most of our LinkedIn clients is clear English with an occasional Urdu line where it adds something, and you approve every post before it goes out.
