How should a consultant in Islamabad write their LinkedIn About section?
Write it for the client who is checking you out, in the first person: who you help, the problems you solve, how you work, and how to contact you. The opening lines matter most, because LinkedIn cuts the rest behind "see more". Skip the career biography and adjectives like "passionate" and "results-driven".
The longer answer
The About section is read by people who are already interested — a potential client who saw your post, an HR manager forwarded your name, a partner deciding whether to refer you. They want to know quickly whether you can help with their problem. So start with a plain sentence that answers it: "I help Pakistani SMEs fix their tax filings before FBR notices arrive" or "I advise software houses in Islamabad on contracts with foreign clients." That beats "Experienced professional with over a decade of diverse exposure", which says nothing a reader can use.
After the opening, give two or three short paragraphs. One on the kind of clients and problems you work with, using the words those clients would use. One on how you work — retainers or projects, in person in Blue Area or remote, languages, the industries you know. One with proof that you can state honestly, such as qualifications, the types of organisations you have worked with if confidentiality allows, or the topics you write about. End with how to reach you: an email, a website, or "message me here". Keep it in the first person; third-person About sections read like a press release.
Your headline and the Featured section work alongside it. The headline appears next to your name everywhere, including in comments and search, so it should say what you do and for whom rather than just your job title. Featured lets you pin your best posts, an article, or a link to your services. Review all three every few months. Rewriting the headline, About and Featured is the first thing we do in a LinkedIn engagement, before any posts go out, because every post sends people to that profile.
