How to record video with just a phone
Use the rear camera, stand near a window with the light on your face, and put the phone on something that does not move. That is 90 percent of it. A tripod and a clip-on light cost about PKR 4,000 together and will improve your footage more than a new phone would.

The longer answer
The front camera is the first thing to stop using. It is softer, noisier and it flatters nobody. Flip the phone around, prop it up, and use the rear lens — you can frame yourself with the screen off and check the first take. Lock focus and exposure by pressing and holding on your face before you start, otherwise the phone will hunt and re-expose every time you move, which is the wobble that makes footage look amateur.
Light is the whole game and daylight is free. Face a window, do not stand with your back to it. If you film in a shop with tube lights overhead, you will get shadows under the eyes — a cheap LED panel or ring light at eye level fixes that in one second. Avoid mixing daylight and yellow bulbs in one frame; pick one. And film before the evening load-shedding slot if your area still has one, or keep the light on a UPS.
Frame at eye level, not from your chest looking up, and leave a little space above your head. Vertical 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts; horizontal 16:9 only if the video is going to YouTube as a long video. Do not use the phone's digital zoom — walk closer. Shoot in 1080p at 30fps rather than 4K unless someone is genuinely editing on a computer, because 4K fills a 128GB phone quickly and slows every step afterwards.
Last, make it repeatable. Mark a spot on the floor with tape so the setup is the same every week, keep the tripod assembled in a corner, and record ten clips in a sitting rather than one. Send us the raw files on WhatsApp or a shared Drive folder and everything after that — cutting, captions, thumbnails, posting — is ours.
The numbers
| Item | Typical price (PKR) | Why it earns its place |
|---|---|---|
| Phone tripod with adjustable head | 1,200 – 2,500 | Stops the shake; lets you use the rear camera |
| Clip-on LED or small ring light | 2,500 – 6,000 | Rescues evening filming and dark shops |
| Phone clamp or holder for the tripod | 400 – 800 | Most cheap tripods do not include one |
| A2 white chart paper as a reflector | 80 – 150 | Bounces window light back onto your face |
| 128GB memory card or phone storage | 2,000 – 4,500 | You will fill it faster than you expect |
