How do I brief a video editor so I get the edit I want?

Editors make hundreds of small decisions per video, and without a brief they guess. The title and thumbnail idea come first, because they set the promise the opening has to keep. If the title is "Why my car AC stopped cooling in June", the edit should show the problem in the first seconds, not the drive to the workshop. Tell the editor who the viewer is, too: a first-time buyer, an existing customer, a student in Rawalpindi preparing for an entry test. That decides how much to explain.

Point to the best moment. You were there; you know the line that made the room laugh or the reveal that answers the question. Tell the editor the timestamp so it can be teased early or used in the vertical cut. Then share two or three reference videos, ideally from channels in your own field, and say what you like about each: the caption style, the pace, the music level. "Make it engaging" means nothing; "captions like this, music lower than this" is usable.

Finally, list what must not appear: a customer's face without consent, a price you have since changed, a competitor's shop sign, a phone number said aloud. When the first cut arrives, reply with timestamps and specific notes, such as "2:14 cut this sentence" or "spelling of Gulberg wrong at 5:02", rather than general reactions. Collect all your notes in one message so the editor can fix them in a single pass.
