Should my business have a Facebook page or a Facebook group?
Start with a page; add a group only if you can keep a community talking without you. A page is your public shopfront — hours, address, reviews, Messenger, ads. A group suits businesses whose customers want to talk to each other, such as a gym, a parenting brand or a tuition academy in Rawalpindi.
The longer answer
A Facebook page is built for a business. It shows your category, contact buttons, opening hours, map location and recommendations from customers. It is what people find when they search your name, what Messenger enquiries go to, and what you need to run ads. Every business that uses Facebook should have one, set up correctly, before thinking about anything else. A furniture shop on Murree Road or a clinic in G-8 gets most of its Facebook value from a tidy page and fast replies.
A group is a different thing: a space where members post and talk to each other. It can be powerful when your customers share an interest that goes beyond buying from you — a running club, mothers of toddlers, CSS aspirants, home bakers learning recipes. Groups tend to feel more personal and can keep people engaged between purchases. But a group needs constant care. Someone must approve members, start discussions, answer questions and remove spam. An empty group, or one filled only with your own promotions, looks worse than having none.
So ask whether your customers would talk to each other without you prompting them. If yes, a group linked to your page can become a real asset, and you can post in it as the page. If no, put the effort into the page and into taking part, as your business, in existing local groups where your buyers already ask for recommendations — sector community groups, buy-and-sell groups, school parent groups — following each group's rules. That usually brings more enquiries than building a new group from nothing.
