What is Web hosting?
Web hosting is the rented server space where a website's files and database live and from which pages are sent to visitors. The main types are shared hosting, where many sites share one server and its resources; VPS hosting, a reserved slice of a server with guaranteed resources; dedicated servers; managed hosting, where the provider handles updates and security for a platform like WordPress; and modern platforms that serve static or server-rendered sites from a global network. Cheap shared hosting is fine for a brochure site, but a slow or overcrowded server undermines everything else done to the site.
