What is CMS (content management system)?
A content management system, or CMS, is the software that lets you add and edit pages, posts, products and images on a website through a dashboard instead of editing code. WordPress is the most widely used; Shopify and WooCommerce are built for shops; Wix and Squarespace bundle the CMS with hosting; headless systems keep content separate from the site's front end. The right one depends on who will edit the site, how often, and what it has to do. A CMS that the owner never logs into is just an expensive way to host a few pages.
What does CMS (content management system) mean for a business in Pakistan?
Many Pakistani business owners are handed a WordPress site with admin access held by the freelancer who built it. When that person disappears, nobody can change a price or a phone number. Whatever CMS you pick, the business should own the main admin login, the hosting account and the domain from day one.
A worked example
An Islamabad law firm updates its site about four times a year and has no one technical in-house. A heavy WordPress install with 25 plugins needs monthly updates it will not do. A simpler setup where the developer makes the occasional change on request, or a small CMS with only the fields the firm actually edits, fits better.
