What is Vector file?
A vector file stores a design as mathematical shapes and paths rather than as a grid of pixels, so it can be scaled to any size without becoming blurry. Common vector formats are SVG, AI (Adobe Illustrator), EPS and vector PDF. A raster file such as a JPG or PNG is made of pixels and loses quality when enlarged. Logos should always exist as vectors, because the same mark has to work on a visiting card, a website icon, a shop sign and a vehicle wrap. When a designer delivers a logo, the vector source files are the real deliverable; a PNG alone means every future enlargement will look worse or require redrawing.
What does Vector file mean for a business in Pakistan?
Many Pakistani businesses only have their logo as a low-resolution JPG sent on WhatsApp years ago, which then gets traced badly every time a signboard or uniform is made. Asking any designer in Islamabad or Rawalpindi for SVG and AI files at handover avoids paying to redraw it later.
A worked example
A hypothetical Saddar pharmacy needs a large illuminated sign and sends the sign-maker its only logo file, a small JPG. Enlarged, the edges are jagged and the text is fuzzy. A designer redraws it as an SVG; from then on, the pharmacy sends that file for every sign, bag and print job.
