What is GEO?
GEO, generative engine optimisation, is the work of getting your business mentioned and cited when someone asks an AI tool such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Copilot for a recommendation. It overlaps with SEO but the target is different: you are not chasing a ranking position, you are trying to be part of the material the model draws on. That comes from being described consistently across many independent sources, publishing clear factual pages a retrieval system can quote, and being named in third-party lists and discussions rather than only on your own site. There is no dashboard — you check by asking the tools and reading the citations.
What does GEO mean for a business in Pakistan?
This matters sooner than most local businesses think, because Pakistani buyers with overseas contacts increasingly ask an AI tool for a shortlist before they search. Right now few Islamabad businesses are described anywhere except their own Facebook page, so the models have nothing to cite. Getting named in a local roundup, a twin-cities discussion thread, or a Pakistani business directory does more here than another service page on your own site.
A worked example
Ask ChatGPT for the best social media agency in Islamabad 5 times and log every source it cites. If 4 of those 5 answers cite the same 2 directory pages and 1 blog roundup, the task is obvious: get accurately listed on those 3 sources, with identical PKR pricing and one identical address, rather than writing a 4th service page on your own site.
