What is FAQ schema?
FAQ schema is structured data, using the FAQPage type from schema.org, that marks up a list of questions and answers on a page so machines can read each pair separately. For a few years it made questions expand directly under a result in Google. Since 2023 Google shows that rich result only for well-known government and health websites, so for most businesses it no longer changes how the listing looks. It still has a use: it states clearly which text answers which question, which helps search engines and AI assistants pick the right passage. It must match questions actually visible on the page.
What does FAQ schema mean for a business in Pakistan?
Plenty of Pakistani SEO checklists still promise FAQ dropdowns in Google as if nothing changed. They will not appear for an Islamabad dental clinic or a Rawalpindi tuition centre. FAQ schema is worth adding where a page genuinely has questions and answers, but it should not be sold as a visibility trick.
A worked example
A Rawalpindi wedding hall's booking page has six visible questions: capacity, per-head menu, parking, decoration, advance payment and cancellation. It adds FAQPage markup matching those six exactly. Google does not show dropdowns, but when someone asks an assistant about cancellation at Rawalpindi wedding halls, the hall's own answer is easy to find and quote.
