What is Fallback response?

A fallback response is what a chatbot says when it cannot understand the message or cannot find an answer it is confident in. It is the most frequently seen message in many bots and the one most often left as a bland default like 'Sorry, I didn't get that.' A good fallback admits the gap honestly, offers two or three things the bot can help with, and gives a route to a person. Logging every fallback is also the cheapest research a business can do: the questions a bot fails on are a list of what customers want to know and what the knowledge base is missing.

What does Fallback response mean for a business in Pakistan?

Voice notes, mixed Urdu-English sentences and Roman Urdu spellings trigger fallbacks far more often in Pakistan than tidy English questions. A local bot should expect 'kitne ka hai', 'kitne ka h' and 'price?' to mean the same thing, and fall back gracefully when it meets a voice note.

A worked example

Imagine an Islamabad gym's bot whose fallback reads: 'Yeh mujhe samajh nahi aaya. Main membership fees, timings aur trainer ke baare mein bata sakta hoon, ya aap staff se baat kar sakte hain.' Reviewing a month of fallbacks shows many people asking about ladies-only timings, which then gets added.

These come up in the same conversations and are worth reading together.
