What is CRM?

A CRM, short for customer relationship management, is the system where a business records every lead and customer and what has happened with each: when they enquired, from which ad or channel, who spoke to them, what was quoted, and whether they bought. It can be dedicated software such as HubSpot or Zoho, a WhatsApp-connected inbox with labels, or, honestly, a well-kept shared spreadsheet. What matters is that every enquiry goes in, every stage is updated, and nothing lives only in one salesperson's phone. Without it, nobody can say which campaign produced paying customers, and follow-ups depend on memory.

What does CRM mean for a business in Pakistan?

In many Pakistani small businesses the CRM is the owner's personal WhatsApp, and leads disappear when chats get buried or a staff member leaves with the phone. Even a Google Sheet with columns for date, name, source, status and next step is a large improvement for a Rawalpindi or Islamabad shop.

A worked example

Say an interior design studio in E-11 logs every enquiry in a shared sheet with a 'source' column. After two months it sees that Instagram brought 70 enquiries and 3 projects, while Google search brought 18 enquiries and 5 projects. Without the sheet, Instagram would have looked like the winner.

These come up in the same conversations and are worth reading together.
