What is AI crawler?
An AI crawler is a bot run by an AI company that visits websites to collect pages, either to train models or to fetch fresh information when a user asks a question. Examples include OpenAI's GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot, Anthropic's ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot. Each identifies itself with a user-agent name, so a site can allow or block it in robots.txt. Google offers a separate control called Google-Extended for AI training use. Blocking search-oriented AI bots may keep your pages out of those assistants' answers, so the decision deserves a moment's thought rather than a default.
