What are local citations, and which directories matter in Pakistan?

Citations help Google confirm that your business exists where you say it does. When your Facebook page, Bing Places listing, website footer and a trade directory all give the same name, Islamabad address and phone number, the picture is consistent and easier to trust. When they disagree — an old number on one, a former shop in Saddar on another — that trust weakens. Citations are less powerful than they once were, but inconsistent ones still drag on a profile.

For most twin-city businesses a short list covers it: Google Business Profile first, then Bing Places and Apple Business Connect, because people use those maps on their phones; your Facebook and Instagram business pages with full contact details; and any directory specific to your trade that customers browse, such as a doctor-booking platform for clinics, a property portal for dealers, or a wedding-vendor site for caterers and photographers. If you sell to companies, a LinkedIn company page belongs on the list too.

What does not help is buying a package of three hundred submissions to directories nobody visits. Many of those sites are low quality, some disappear within a year, and a few are spammy enough that being on them looks odd. The useful work is slower: find every place your business is already mentioned, correct the wrong details at the source, and add the handful of listings that a real customer might see. Keep a simple sheet of where you are listed and the login for each, so that the next time your number changes you can update every one of them in an afternoon.
