What should I give a copywriter so the copy sounds like my business?

The most useful thing you can send is your own voice. Record a few voice notes on WhatsApp explaining what you do, as if to a new customer at the counter in Commercial Market or on the phone. Forward replies you have sent that customers responded well to. Point out posts that sounded right and posts that did not. A writer can learn your tone from ten real examples far faster than from a description like 'friendly but professional'.

Then give the facts. List the services or products, what each includes, the prices or starting points, the areas you cover, your hours, payment options and policies on delivery, returns or cancellations. Collect the questions people ask most often, ideally copied straight from your inbox, because those questions are what the copy has to answer. Tell the writer about any claims you must not make, such as medical promises or guarantees, so nothing goes out that you would have to retract.

Finally, be clear about language and approval. Say which language each channel uses, and who signs off. Expect the first drafts to need some correction while the writer learns your voice, and give specific feedback, such as 'we never say cheap, we say affordable', rather than 'it doesn't feel right'.
