What files should I get from my logo designer?
Ask for the vector source file (AI, SVG or EPS, plus a PDF), transparent high-resolution PNGs, a one-colour version, and the exact colour codes. Without the vector file, every signboard maker and printer in Islamabad or Rawalpindi will either redraw your logo, badly, or print a blurry enlargement of a small image.
The longer answer
Logos should be drawn as vectors, which are built from shapes rather than pixels, so they scale from a pen to a shopfront without losing sharpness. JPEGs and PNGs are pixel images: fine for a WhatsApp profile picture, useless for a large panaflex. Plenty of owners discover the difference the day a printer in Raja Bazaar asks for 'the CDR file' or 'the AI file' and all they have is a screenshot forwarded in a chat.
A complete hand-over usually includes the master file in the software it was drawn in; SVG and PDF exports that any printer can open; transparent PNGs in several sizes for web and social; versions for light and dark backgrounds; a single-colour version for stamps, receipts and embroidery; the icon on its own for profile pictures; and colour codes in HEX for screens and CMYK for print, with a Pantone reference if your signage needs one. The fonts should be named, with a note on whether they are licensed for commercial use.
Keep everything in a Google Drive folder that you own, not only in the designer's account or inbox. Before paying, ask in writing whether source files are included; some low-cost offers deliver images only and charge again for the source. Our own hand-over puts editable sources in your Drive by default, because a logo you cannot reuse without going back to the person who drew it is not fully yours.
