What size should Instagram and Facebook posts be?
Design feed posts at 1080 pixels wide in a 4:5 portrait shape (1080 by 1350), which fills more of a phone screen than a square. Stories, Reels covers and WhatsApp statuses use 9:16 (1080 by 1920). Keep important text away from the edges, because each app places buttons and crops previews differently, in Pakistan and everywhere else.
The longer answer
Most people in Pakistan scroll on phones, so the shape that takes up the most screen tends to hold attention longest. That is why 4:5 portrait has become the default for feed posts on both Instagram and Facebook. Squares still work, but they leave empty space above and below. Landscape images look small in a phone feed and are best kept for website banners and YouTube. Whatever the shape, export at the full width rather than a smaller size, because the app compresses images and a small upload ends up soft and blotchy.
Vertical 9:16 is the format for stories, Reels and WhatsApp status. The top and bottom of that frame are covered by the profile name, reply box and buttons, so keep headlines and phone numbers in the middle area. Reels also show a cropped preview on your profile grid and in the feed, so the cover image needs its key text near the centre.
Other placements have their own shapes: a Facebook page cover, a YouTube channel banner, Google Business Profile photos and LinkedIn banners all crop differently on desktop and mobile. Platforms adjust these specifications from time to time, so check the current help pages before a big campaign rather than trusting an old chart.
