How do I get my website into Google's AI Overviews?

AI Overviews are the summaries Google writes at the top of some results, with links to the pages it drew on. Google's guidance to site owners is plain: there are no extra requirements and no special markup needed. A page has to be indexed and eligible to show a snippet in normal search.
