Email or WhatsApp: which is better for following up with customers in Pakistan?
WhatsApp wins for quick, personal follow-ups with local customers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi: order updates, reminders and 'is it still available' chats. Email wins for longer content, receipts, B2B clients, international buyers and automated sequences you want to run at scale without risking your number. Most businesses need both, each doing a different job.
Customers ko follow up ke liye email behtar hai ya WhatsApp?
The longer answer
In Pakistan most retail customers live on WhatsApp and check email rarely, so a delivery update, an appointment reminder or a reply to a price question belongs there. It is read quickly, the customer can answer in one tap, and the conversation feels personal. The limits are that WhatsApp is strict about unsolicited promotional messages, broadcasts reach only people who saved your number, and sending the same promotion repeatedly risks restrictions.
Email is better at different things. It handles long content well: a monthly newsletter, a product guide, a school's term calendar, a proposal. It carries invoices and receipts that people need to find later. It is the normal channel for corporate clients, government offices and overseas buyers, which matters for software houses, exporters and consultancies in Islamabad. And automated sequences such as a welcome series or an abandoned-cart email can run to thousands of people without any risk to your phone number.
Cost and control differ too. The WhatsApp Business app is free; the API charges per template message. Email platforms charge by list size or volume but put no per-message charge on each customer conversation. Your email list is also more portable: you can export it and move platforms, whereas a WhatsApp number's history depends on that one account.
A sensible split for a twin-city business: collect both the WhatsApp number and the email at checkout or booking. Use WhatsApp for anything time-sensitive or conversational. Use email for receipts, longer updates and automated sequences. Do not send the same promotion on both on the same day; customers notice and it reads as spam.
