What is a YouTube channel audit?

A useful audit starts from data only the channel owner can see. YouTube Studio records how many times each video's thumbnail was shown, how many people clicked, where they came from, how long they stayed and exactly where they left. An auditor reads those numbers across your recent uploads and looks for patterns: videos that get shown but not clicked, videos that get clicked but abandoned early, topics that bring subscribers and topics that bring nobody.

From those patterns come the findings. Packaging problems appear as low click-through on plenty of impressions, and the fix is titles and thumbnails. Retention problems appear as sharp drops at the same point in many videos, often a long introduction, and the fix is editing and scripting. Niche problems appear when each video reaches a completely different audience, so YouTube cannot work out who to recommend the channel to. Metadata problems, missing chapters, vague descriptions, no captions, are the easiest to fix and usually the least important.

The output should be specific and ranked. "Improve your thumbnails" is not a finding; "your last eight videos average below your channel's usual click-through, and all eight use a screenshot rather than a photo" is.
