.pk or .com: which domain should a Pakistani business buy?

A country-code domain such as .pk tells Google the site is aimed at Pakistan. For a dental clinic in G-11, a tuition academy in Satellite Town or a caterer in Bahria Town, that is exactly the audience, so a .pk loses nothing and sometimes reads as more local. A .com is neutral: Google works out the target country from your content, address, Google Business Profile and links. If you sell abroad, such as export handicrafts or online tutoring for overseas Pakistanis, a .com keeps every country open.

Habit matters more than ranking here. Many people type .com without thinking, and a customer told your name on the phone will often try that first. If the .com version of your name belongs to someone else, a visitor can end up on their site. So when the .com is available at a reasonable price, it is usually the safer main address. When it is not, a clean .pk or .com.pk is far better than a .com with hyphens, numbers or an awkward extra word added just to get the ending.

Whichever you pick, register it in your own name or your company's, with an email address you control, and note the renewal date. Pakistani country-code domains are administered by PKNIC and are sold through it and through resellers, so the account and renewal process differ from a typical .com registrar.
